To love is nothing.
To love is something.
To love and be loved is everything.
Beautiful sun that gave us light,
Beautiful moon that shone at night,
Beautiful planet in the heaven far,
Beautiful twinkle of each little star.
Friends will come and friends will go,
Friends will stay, though time goes.
Friendship will around you, strong and true.
I never wanted a dog, but now I'm so glad I have one.
About two year ago. my wife, Cathy, got a little dog with a face only a mother could love. We named her Gertie.
Gertie is the kind of dog that has to grow on you. So I decided that the dog would be trained. This didn't quite go as planned. At 15 weeks old, she was nearly made to leave the Petsmart Training School. She spent every night lying in out bed--snoring(打鼾)so loudly that I hardly got a good night's sleep.
Then about six months after she arrived, I felt that something my heart was taking place, and I was unable to stop it. My behavior began to change. I began to smile at people when passing them in street. I returned from neighbors. I started calling my kids and,to my surprise, they started calling me. I even tried to speak to my grandchildren over the phone once. I even was glad to listen to laughter from a 10-month-old granddaughter. The point is that I was changing.
My wife and I both agree that it is Gertie who has changed my behavior.
Gertie is now nearly two years old and almost fully grown. I have come to like the pet little by little, though she is my wife's dog.

For many years scientists have said that the earth is getting warmer. Now they have found something new-hot cities! In the southern US, they ha,e found that cities become very hot in summer. For example the city of Atlanta in Georgia has rooftop temperatures of up to 50 degrees while it is 27 degrees in the streets! At night, the outsides of the building stay so hot that the heat of the city causes storm over the city. China also has the same kind of problems. Every year more farming land is used for factories or offices. More housing is needed, too. As people become richer, they buy more cars. Now roads are needed and new car parks are built in the city centers. This
all makes the city hotter.
It is not easy m change the situation. City planners say that we should plant more trees in the middle of cities. Even new street should have trees on both sides, they say. Trees make the temperatures lower, so we should have more trees in our parks and squares. Also we should paint our roofs white. If we do this, they do not become so hot. Every roof in a hot and sunny country should have solar roof panels. The electricity from these can be used to run air conditioners in the building.
People continue to cut down forests around the cities. This makes the problem worse. Cities are growing faster and faster. By the year 2025, 80% of the world's population will he living in cities. If we go on like this, there will not be enough farmland to feed everyone in the world.

Oftentimes one hears children wishing they were grown-ups, and old people wishing they were youngsters again. Each age has its pleasures and its pains, and the happiest person is the one who enjoys what each age gives him without wasting his time in useless things.
Childhood is a time when there are few responsibilities(责任) to think about. A child is usually fed, looked after and loved by his parents. He will never be expected to do anything in return. Also, life is always presenting(星现) new things to a child, but the things that have lost their appeal for the old because they are too well-known. In the meanwhile, a child has his pains: He is not so free to do what he wishes to, he is continually(不断地) being told not to do a certain thing, or being punished for what he has done wrong.
After a child grows up. he starts to make his own living. He can no longer expect others to pay for his food, his clothes, or his room, and he has to work if he wants to live comfortably. If he spends most of his time playing about in the way he used to play as a child, he will go hungry. And if he breaks the laws of society as he used to break the laws of his parents, he may go in prison.
